House of Waris

CDFA submission package and interior detailing for office

When House of Waris’ jewelry master and Wes Anderson film star Waris Ahluwalia was nominated for the 2009 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund, he commissioned By Kenyan to make the packaging for his whimsical design submission. Waris asked us make a large wooden crate that looked as though it had travelled the world. The end product was covered in shipping labels and stamps that we designed in house. Inside the crate was a solid mahogany box that had a built-in TV screen, which played Waris’ journey on the Oriental Express from India back to New York, exposing his process of designing and fabricating the jewelry. He was awarded the CFDA/NYCEDC Fashion Incubator grant and in 2010, he was inducted as an official member of the CFDA.

We also designed his townhouse showroom and office, adding accents such as a custom-built farm table, sourced antique furnishings, and an impressive wooden letterpress holder that we converted into a jewelry case lined with blue velvet.
